Norfolk renters returned from work to find their garden and outbuilding in ruins after a wildfire swept through the area. The UK’s heatwave and scorching 40C temperatures sparked wildfires across the country, with Norfolk being one of the hardest hit areas. More than 100 fires were dealt with by Norfolk Fire Service on Tuesday alone. Housemates Annabelle and Patrick described the aftermath as “Armageddon”, lucky that their entire house wasn’t caught by the flames. Take a look at the scene left behind after the hottest day of the year wreaked havoc.
Annabelle said: “The whole garden is black. There’s nothing green left. It’s like Armageddon.”
“It was just billowing smoke. The flames were huge,” Patrick added.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.”
The pair are now waiting to see if their landlord’s insurance will cover the damage. In the meantime, they are living in a rented house with no garden and an outbuilding that is almost completely destroyed.
